Gates: How do you asses the results of the war in Vietnam on the American people?
Baldwin: Americans are terrified. For the first time they know they are capable of genocide. History is built o genocide. But they can’t face it. And it doesn’t make any difference what Americans think that they think-they are terrified.
Gates: From your vantage point, where do you think not only America but Western Civilization is heading?
Baldwin: The old survivals of my generation will be wiped out. Western Civilization is heading for an apocalypse.
